As a large number of women, approx over 30,000, are pushed into sex slavery every year through trafficking in the nation, the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) plans to form an international forum.

It will also hold a two-day conference in Mumbai on July 27 and 28 to address the issue and fight the menace. About 100 delegates from over 20 nations are likely to participate in the event.

“We will form an international forum to create more awareness,” said MSCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar.

The subjects of dialogue will be women trafficking, its impact, victims and their rehabilitation, apart from how to deal with the issue, best practices worldwide and need of stringent laws, among others.

The event is expected to be attended by Union surface transport minister Nitin Gadkari, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Goa governor Mridula Sinha, Maharashtra DGP Satish Mathur, Goa DGP Muktesh Chander, Mumbai Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar.
