Though the first half of the year 2017 failed to do much when it comes to content-oriented, unique and empowering films, the second half of the year looks promising. With full of varieties and controversial films in the pipeline for release, the rest of the year looks set for the movie buffs.

From Lipstick Under My Burkha to Padmavati– each of the films that is going to be released in the second half of the year, holds unique tales, interesting plots (as it seems) and uniqueness that may change the way we see Bollywood.  So, here we bring you the most anticipated, content-driven films to be released during the second half of year. Read on:

LIPSTICK UNDER MY BURKHA (JULY 21)

Direced by Alankrita Shrivastava, the film stars some great actors including Ratna Pathak and Konkona Sensharma. Along with garnering controversy even before its release, the film has also won multiple international awards. ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ traces spirit of rebellion that is growing within women from different spectrum of India.

DADDY (JULY 21)

Directed by Ashim Ahluwalia, Daddy features Arjun Rampal and Nishikant Kamat in pivotal roles. It tells the sensational true story of Arun Gawli, India’s most feared mobsters.

INDU SARKAR (JULY 28)

Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, Indu Sarkar traces the story of a woman who stood up against the system during the 21-month long state of emergency. The film stars Supriya Vinod, Anupam Kher, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kirti Kulhari and Tota Roy Choudhury . The trailer of the film looks promising and people has huge expectation from Bhandarkar as well.

TOILET – EK PREM KATHA (AUGUST 11)

Starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar, ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ would probably be the first contemporary film that will highlight the menace of open defecation in India. The issue needs to be addressed immediately and finally, some people have realized it. Thus bringing ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ to convey a very strong message.

HASEENA PARKAR (AUGUST 18)

This biographical crime film is based on the journey of terrorist Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parker. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film stars Shraddha Kapoor, Siddhanth Kapoor and Ankur Bhatia. Shraddha is looking convincing as Parker.

SIMRAN (SEPTEMBER 15)

Kangana Ranaut is one such actress who is known for her choice of films. Directed by Hansal Mehta, ‘Simran’ is said to be inspired by the exploits of an Indian-origin nurse turned bank robber Sandeep Kaur.

BAADSHAHO (SEPTEMBER 1)

Starring Emraan Hashmi, Sanjay Mishra, Ajay Devgn, Ileana D’Cruz, Vidyut Jammwal and Esha Gupta, ‘Baadshaho’ is another film set in India’s emergency era. However, its plot is entirely different and with stellar star cast, this one is indeed among the most anticipated film of the year.

PADMAVATI (NOVEMBER 17)

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. This SLB’s directorial is indeed the most anticipated film of the year. ‘Padmavati’ is the story of Alauddin Khilji, the second ruler of the Khilji dynasty, and his obsessive love for the queen of Mewar, Padmavati.  Padmavati was famous for her beauty, intelligence and bravery and the role is played by Deepika.

NEWTON (AUGUST 18)

Rajkummar Rao’s NEWTON is a black comedy and had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. It is the tale of a government clerk who is sent to naxal-controlled regions of Chattisgarh on election duty.
