New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Wednesday, May 15 accused the All India Trinamool Congress of creating an atmosphere of violence in the state, saying “There have been no instances of violence in any other place except in West Bengal.”
While speaking at a press conference at the saffron party’s headquarters, Shah said it was the TMC and not the BJP who were behind the violence erupted in West Bengal during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
“In the last six phases, only Bengal has witnessed violence. Mamata Banerjee claims that BJP is behind the violence. I want to tell her you are fighting on just 42 seats. We are fighting across the country. We are pitted against everyone but there has been no violence elsewhere,” the BJP president said. “Yesterday, three hours before the roadshow, banners and posters removed. The police was a mute spectator. They tried to provoke our party workers but that didn’t work,” he further added.
“Our popularity in Kolkata and Bengal has given Mamata didi the jitters that is why she has resorted to extreme measures.” He added, “If it weren’t for the team of CRPF deployed in my security, I might not have come back alive from the violence.”
Supporters of the BJP and AITC fought on the streets of Kolkata during a road show by BJP president Amit Shah, who escaped unhurt and was escorted to safety by the police.
