The Haryana government has ordered an inquiry into the alleged case of molestation of a 14-year-old rape survivor. Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana HC issued a notice to the Haryana DGP on the survivor’s petition. She has alleged that she was forced to strip by male police officers and was also sexually harassed.
“This matter is extremely serious… we have ordered an inquiry into the allegation labeled by the girl,” Ram Niwas, the additional secretary said.
“Such an incident is unacceptable and whosoever is found guilty will get a severe punishment… Guilty won’t be spared,” he added.
According to the petition filed by the survivor in the Punjab and Haryana High court, she alleged that she was forced to remove her clothes by male police officers in Kaithal, during the investigation after which she was raped. The petition said that she was asked to unbutton herself and was then touched on the pretext to check if she was raped. It further claimed that despite submitting a complaint to the DGP regarding the sexual harassment no action was taken or FIR was registered against the police.
The survivor had lodged a rape case with the police on November 20, 2016, after which the police started the investigation procedure. It was during the investigation that the police had taken the girl to the crime investigation agency in Kaithal, where she was allegedly sexually harassed, according to her petition.
