Jammu & Kashmir: Army Major shoots himself in North Kashmir’s Tangdhar, dies on spot

Jammu & Kashmir: An army major stationed in the Tangdhar area of North Kashmir has shot himself and died by suicide on the spot. According to information, a major of jack rifles stationed at Titwal in Tangdhar in Kupwara district of North Kashmir shot himself. 

Immediately after the incident, the body of the army major was taken to the military hospital where the matter will be investigated after completion of all other formalities. Other details are currently awaited.

Before this on 12th May 2020, a sub-inspector of CRPF shot himself with his service rifle in the Akarun Mattan area of Anantnag district of South Kashmir. The sub-inspector wrote before suicide that ‘ I am afraid I am corona positive; it is good that I die ‘.

Similarly, an assistant sub-inspector of CRPF, who was stationed outside Neelam Cinema in Karan Nagar, Srinagar, had also shot himself and committed suicide. In a similar development, a major rank officer of the Army’s Romeo force, who was stationed at a military camp in Dera Street in Thananmandi, army, was also dead in the mysterious circumstances on November 9, 2020.

Dr. Yasir Hassan Rather, a psychiatrist associate professor at the Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, says that the jawans of security forces often suffer from mental depression while doing strict duties away from their homes. 

He said that last year, about four such cases of security forces came to their notice every month. But now it has come down considerably. Since the security forces are now motivated to remain stress-free from yoga and other activities during deployment, which is proving to be very helpful for the Jawans and officers.
