Five people have lost their lives after a fire broke in the Serum Institute of India in Pune as per IANS. The fire broke around Noon at the Pune facility and immediately spread onto the whole building.
Chief Executive Officer of SII tweeted confirming the same and expressed his deepest condolences to the family members of the departed.
We have just received some distressing updates; upon further investigation we have learnt that there has unfortunately been some loss of life at the incident. We are deeply saddened and offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the departed.

Serum Institute of India Pune Fire: Covishield safe
While speaking to CNBC TV-18, he confirmed that priority products like Covishield, EPI vaccine will not suffer due to the fire, however, new product launches will be hit.
He added that equipment worth hundreds of crores have taken a hit in this fire and will take years to regain the revenue loss which has occurred in this unfortunate incident.
“I’d like to reassure all govts & public that there would be no loss of Covishield production due to multiple production buildings that I’d kept in reserve to deal with such contingencies at Serum Institute of India,” said Poonawalla on Twitter.
