When is Gudi Padwa 2022: The festival of Gudi Padwa is another Indian festival that has special significance. It is celebrated during Chaitra month. Like every year, in 2022, Gudi Padwa will be celebrated on 2nd April. It falls on Saturday. The other name of this festival is Samvatsar Padvo.

This regional Indian holiday is the traditional new year for Marathi Hindus. It also marks the start of the civil year among Hindus, particularly in the central Indian states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.

Gudi Padwa, also known as Gudi Padva, is celebrated on the first day of the Chaitra. This means it usually falls in late March or early April in the Gregorian calendar and generally takes place on the same day as Cheti Chand in Gujarat and Ugadi, which is celebrated as the Telugu and Kannada New Year in the Deccan region of India.

When is Gudi Padwa 2022: Significance

On the day of Gudi Padwa, devotees worship and offer prayers to Lord Brahma, the ultimate creator of the universe. According to the scriptures and legends, it is believed that he created the universe on the day of Gudi Padwa.

Maharashtra celebrate this day with grandeur and enthusiasm, this festival removes all evil and also attracts good luck and prosperity.

Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, the occasion is celebrated as a Ugadi festival . It is also the auspicious day when Chaitra Navratri begins.

Gudi Padwa is considered as one of the most auspicious Muhurat out of 3 Sadhe Teen Muhurats- Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, Ashwin Shukla Pratipada, Vaishakha Shukla Pratipada and Kartik Shukla Pratipada, the half Muhurat.

When is Guri Padwa 2022: History

According to the scriptures and Hindu mythology, the day of Gudi Padwa is celebrated because it symbolizes the auspicious day when Lord Brahma created this universe. Apart from this, it is also a symbol of victory when Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. The Gudi raised on the Gudi Padwa symbolizes the victory flag that is always held high.

When is Guri Padwa 2022: Rituals

Gudi Padwa ritual begins before sunrise where devotees wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath by applying oil on their bodies.

The women clean their homes and later decorate the houses and entrances with mango leaves and beautiful flowers. In villages, people used to plaster their houses with cow-dung.

On Gudi Padwa, devotees worship and pray to Lord Brahma and then unfurl Gudi. Subsequently, it is believed that with Gudi hoisting, devotees can invoke Lord Vishnu.

Making of Gudi:

Gudi is made by tieing up neem leaves, yellow or red cloth, mango leaves and garlands of red flowers on a bamboo stick. On the top, an inverted silver or copper pot is placed. People also make beautiful Gudi Padwa Rangoli around Gudi to seek divine blessings.

Later, the devotees worship the deity and pray for the divine blessings of Lord Vishnu to attain prosperity and security.
