July 2025 Changes Update

Aadhaar Required for All New PAN Applications

Since July 1, 2025, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) requires Aadhaar authentication as the sole option for new PAN card applications, eliminating other types of alternate IDs such as birth certificates or voter IDs.

This move further increases identity verification, seeks to weed out fraudulent PANs, and continues the merging of tax filings with the Aadhaar ecosystem. Current PAN holders must get theirs linked to Aadhaar by the same deadline of December 31, 2025, to ensure their PAN remains functional.

ITR Deadline Extended

The Income Tax Return (ITR) deadline for AY 2025–26 is pushed back from July 31 to September 15, 2025, giving taxpayers 46 additional days to file their returns without incurring late fees.

It remains prudent to file early in any case, to sidestep loading loaded loads immediately servers, or inundations in documentation postmodernology.

Tatkal Booking Reform

On July 1, Aadhaar OTP verification will be mandatory for booking Tatkal train tickets, both online and at railway counters.
The most important changes are to:

  • New timing rules: AC-class bookings open 10–10:30 AM. Non-AC 11–11:30 AM.
  • Agents will be prohibited from reserving Tatkal in first window to prevent mass reservations by middle men.
  • Authentic identity and limited agent participation are designed to limit hoarding and scalping.
