Removing 'Home' from Windows 11 Settings

Removing ‘Home’ from Windows 11 Settings: A new “Home” page was added to the Settings app in Windows 11. This page is now where the app opens by default. It has your recommended and most-used settings, but not much else. This Home page is mostly useless if you know your way around the Settings app, so get rid of it.

You can get rid of the Home page in the Settings app in a few different ways. The first way is to use the Registry Editor. The second way is to use the Group Policy Editor. In either case, you might want to make a backup first so that if something goes wrong, you can go back to the way things were.

Removing ‘Home’ from Windows 11 Settings:

From the Registry Editor, the first way

Anyone with any version of Windows can use the Registry Editor to get rid of the Home page in the Settings app.

Type regedit into the RUN box to open Registry Editor. Then, go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. After that, right-click and choose “New” > “String Value.” Change the name to SettingsPageVisibility. Type hide:home as “Value data” when you open it. To save it, click OK.

HOW TO DO IT STEP BY STEP

  • To open the RUN box, press Win+R. Type “regedit” and press Enter.
  • Type Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer into the address bar of the registry editor or copy and paste the path. Then press Enter.
  • In the left pane, select “Explorer.” On the right, right-click and choose “New” and “String Value.”
  • Change the name of the new string to SettingsPageVisibility.
  • Enter hide:home as “Value data” in the string, then click OK.
  • Instead, close the editor and open the Settings app. The “Home” page would no longer be there.

Second way: Get to the Group Policy Editor

The Group Policy Editor can also be used by Windows 11 Pro users to get rid of the Home page from the Settings app.

What Windows 11 and 10 Environment Variables are and how to use them

SHORT Guide

You can use the RUN box or the Start menu to open Group Policy Editor. To get to the Control Panel, go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel. When you double-click on Settings Page Visibility, make sure it’s set to “Enabled.” Then, type “hide:home” under Options and click “OK.”

HOW TO DO IT STEP BY STEP

  • To open the RUN box, press Win+R. Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
  • To get to the Control Panel, go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel.
  • Do a double-click on the Settings Page Visibility link on the right.
  • Change it to “On.”
  • Type hide:home into the Settings Page Visibility Options box.
  • Press OK.
  • In the Settings app, the Home page would have been gone.
  • It’s easy to get back to the Home page. Just undo the changes made in the previous steps.

How do I get back to the Home page, please?

So, do the opposite of what you did above. If you used the Registry Editor, all you have to do is get rid of the “SettingsPageVisibility” entry you made.

Also, choose “Not configured” now if you used the Group Policy Editor to do this instead.

Microsoft often adds new pages and options, but this doesn’t always make things easier for users. Things that work on their own should sometimes be left alone. We hope this guide helped you get the Windows 11 Settings app back to the way it looked before, without the “Home” tab. Until then!
