Growing concern over Delhi’s rising pollution has led to Oscar-winning actor and staunch environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio talking.
The actor took to Instagram to share his support to the groups who have been working tirelessly to raise awareness about the rising air pollution in Delhi and it’s dangerous effects.
Not only this, but he also shared weather reports on what one can expect in another few days.
Taking to Instagram, he shared a picture from the protest that took place in Delhi as over 1500 citizens gathered at India Gate to demand immediate action concerning the perilous pollution level and its adverse effects on the people. “ Over 1500 citizens gathered in at India Gate, in New Dehli, to demand immediate action on the city’s hazardous pollution levels. According to the World Health Organisation, air pollution in India is estimated to kill about 1.5 million people every year; these statistics make air pollution the fifth-largest killer in India,” he wrote.

He also mentioned the work of the climate activist group, Extinction Rebellion and how the government is working towards tackling the issue. He wrote, “Despite these promises, the air is still unsafe and activists will keep the pressure on until the air pollution reaches safe levels,” and added, “The Indian Prime Minister’s office set up a special panel to address the issue, within a few hours of the protest. The panel is due to report on the issue within two weeks.”
A thick blanket of smog has covered Delhi for several days now and it is affecting the health of individuals who are exposed to air pollution.
