There have been rumors in Bollywood that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is in talks with Mani Ratnam for his upcoming project. In fact, the actress herself had told DNA. “There is a discussion about a film, but we have to really pick up our conversation from where we left it. Mani is one of my favorite filmmakers,” said Mrs. Bachchan.
Now, reports suggest that the actress will have some shades of grey. Aishwarya will play a venomous character and sources close to India Today suggest that Telugu actor Mohan Babu is in talks with the filmmaker to play the role of her husband.
The movie is apparently an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s popular historical novel, Ponniyin Selvan (The Son of Ponni). There will be an ensemble cast as Mani Ratnam is in talks with veterans like Amitabh Bachchan, Vikram, Jayam Ravi amongst others. This is touted to be one of his most ambitious projects to date. However, no confirmation has come from any of the actors so far.
Ponniyin Selvan is the story of Arulmozhivarman who went on to become the Great King Raja Raja Chozhan. Let’s see if the filmmaker manages to bring together this amazing star-cast.
On the work front, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen in Fanney Khan, but sadly, the film didn’t do wonders at the box-office. Recently, the actress spoke of her plans to direct a film someday. Speaking to a daily, she had said, “I do want to direct a movie someday. There’s been chatter, but I have never set time and energy to work on it. Now, I should be seriously thinking about it. My colleagues have always teased me and said, ‘Why don’t you turn a producer or director and make a film of your own?’ So, maybe, a few years down the line, I should be able to live up to it.”
