NCP’s Ajit Pawar on Tuesday resigned as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister ahead of floor test tomorrow.
Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar were sworn in on Saturday in a controversial oath ceremony that was challenged in the Supreme Court by his party Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena and Congress.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had turned down the BJP’s request to give it time till December 15 to prove its majority. The Supreme Court ordered the Fadnavis government to prove its majority by tomorrow in a televised test of strength that would not be carried out by secret ballot.
According to reports, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah reportedly met after the Supreme Court verdict to decide BJP’s next step for Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will hold a media briefing at 3.30 pm today.
