No protection to live-in couple: Allahabad HC

The ADG (Agra zone) complying with high court orders organised a meeting with many senior police officers in Aligarh on Tuesday and started the process of identifying the policemen who were alleged of destroying vehicles and caning students at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus on December 15 2019.

ADG OF Agra Zone, Ajay Anand said a meeting along with DIG and SSP as well as senior officials in Aligarh was conducted on Tuesday to decide on the action to be taken against policemen involved in AMU campus violence.

AMU students accepted the Allahabad High Court’s directive and said it has now been proved that students were subjected to brutal violence. We welcome the court’s directive to instruct the UP government to compensate students.

Salman Imtiaz, former president of the AMU Students said, “UP police’s unprofessional behaviour can be seen from the court’s directive and police should be taught good policing. Police have abused the law, therefore all charges against AMU students in multiple farcical FIRs must be immediately withdrawn.”

Students protesting against CAA/NRC/NPR on the campus demanding the resignations of AMU vice-chancellor and registrar, the students state that both of them should be taking responsibility and quit immediately.

AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar said that the University welcomes the court’s order and all the evidence, including CCTV footage as well as a compliance report will be submitted to the court.

On January 8, 2020, the court has even ordered an enquiry in this matter.

The court has ordered to construct a 6 member enquiry team from the NHRC (National Human Rights Commission) to investigate the violence and ruckus created in the University campus. A six-member team will be called to conduct a probe and prepare a report. Later, a copy of the report will be provided to the high court.

The bench has even instructed NHRC that its recommendations be followed by Uttar Pradesh as well as Central Government. The High Court has even asked for a compliance report when it will hear the case next on March 25.
