A 1-kilometer radius around the place of avian flu outbreak has been banned from selling chicken, birds, and eggs.

Jharkhand on Alert After Bird Flu Outbreak in Ranchi: Several cases of bird flu, commonly known as avian flu, were reported in a state-run poultry farm in Ranchi on Wednesday.

More than 4,000 birds were culled and hundreds of eggs were destroyed after the instances were verified at the Regional Poultry Farm in Hotwar, the state capital.

A 1-kilometer radius around the place of avian flu outbreak has been banned from selling chicken, birds, and eggs.

According to a government directive, the last of the chickens at the Regional Poultry Farm will be culled and disposed of scientifically in the coming days.

To identify infections and begin culling, authorities are to conduct a survey up to one kilometer from the epicentre and map the 10-kilometer area.

Until further orders are received, all buying and selling will be prohibited.

During the survey of the affected area, the district administration team visits door-to-door to see if birds/eggs are available. It was ordered that houses, shops, carts, etc., with the above material cooperate with the survey team and provide information about birds, eggs, etc., and hand them over for culling.”

Citizens are also asked to report dead birds they find to the state’s Animal Husbandry Department.

The Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy has advised the state to take all necessary steps to stop its spread.
