In Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, a depressed man hanged himself to death amid lockdown. The family was shocked by the suicide by the young man. However, police has sent the body for post-mortem.

A 22-year-old youth named Mohammad Haider, a Alambagh resident in the Thana Civil Line area of Aligarh district, has committed suicide  due to depression.

According to the family, Haider lived in the house with his mother. His sisters are married but had come to the house due to Ramadan. The deceased’s sister said that during the lockdown, he repeatedly told his mother about his discomfort. He often said that we would no longer get salary. Mohammad Haider worked at the Allana Meat Factory.

Police said the young man had been in depression for some time and had taken the step to commit suicide.

Rashid, the uncle of the deceased young man, said that he had been at home since the lockdown and was always concerned that he would not be able to get his salary. He slept in the upstairs room of the house. By 10 a.m., when he didn’t come out of the room, his sister went to check him. When he didn’t open the door, his sister went to the nearby house to look him through the parallel window, only to find him hanging.

Haji Jamirullah, a former Samajwadi Party MLA from Aligarh, said he was in depression. He was upset because of the lockdown. When the lockdown further extended to May 17, he became even more depressed and took the step.
