Gold ETF Inflows Rebound in June: Gold exchange-traded funds, or Gold ETFs, had a clear bounce in June after a weak May. New AMFI data shows that these funds brought in net inflows of ₹3,443.23 crore in June. That was a sharp turn from May, when Gold ETFs saw net outflows of ₹725.04 crore. The latest AMFI monthly data confirms the June numbers and shows the category moved back into positive territory very quickly.
Why Investors came back?
The May weakness was linked to a big rise in domestic gold prices after the government raised customs duty on gold from 6% to 15%. That move pushed prices up and led many investors to book profits. Reuters reported that the tariff change and the price jump were major reasons for the gold ETF outflows in May. As prices cooled later, buyers came back into the category.

Market watchers said the June pullback in prices gave investors a better entry point. Nehal Meshram of Morningstar Investment Research India said investors used the correction as an “opportunistic entry point,” and added that interest in gold ETFs remains strong. Her view was that the May drop looked more like a short break than a real change in investor thinking.
Umesh Sharma of The Wealth Company Mutual Fund said the May outflow was driven by profit booking after the customs duty hike and the rise in domestic gold prices. In simple words, many people sold after prices jumped, then returned once the market settled down a bit.
First-Half Demand Stays Strong
The June rebound also closed a strong first half for Gold ETFs. Morningstar said Gold ETFs saw about ₹37,319 crore in net inflows in the first half of CY2026, far above the ₹8,021 crore collected in the same period last year. That shows the category is still being used as a safe place for money when investors want protection from market stress, global uncertainty, and shaky interest-rate expectations.
Morningstar also said the first-half collections were led by a very strong January, but the broader message is still the same. Gold continues to be seen as a useful part of a long-term portfolio. Even after the ups and downs in May, June’s inflows suggest many investors still like gold ETFs for diversification and safety.
