In an appalling incident, Visakhapatnam police chained, dragged on the road, brutally thrashing an anaesthetist who was suspended by the government two months ago after he spoke openly about the shortage of N-95 masks for doctors.

According to the reports, hundreds of people remained mute spectators to the inhuman treatment meted out to Dr Sudhakar. The police tied his hands behind and went on thrashing him before dumping him in an auto to take to the police station.

Dr Sudhakar in March alleged that the doctors were not provided N-95 masks and were asked to use one mask for 15 days. The health department placed him under suspend, charging him with spreading false information.

However, Vizag police commissioner RK Meena announced that a constable was suspended for beating the doctor.

Police commissioner Meena said the police control room had received a call informing that a person was creating nuisance on the highway at Akkayyapalem area. According to him, the fourth town police rushed to the place and ascertained that the person was Dr Sudhakar of Narsipatnam government hospital, presently under suspension.

“When the police tried to control him, Sudhakar behaved rudely, snatched away the mobile phone from a constable and threw it away”, the commissioner alleged.

He also alleged that the doctor was suffering from psychological problems for some time.
