In a recent, for a Pakistani man in distress, a Bhopal based doctor turned out to be a guardian angel. The patient, who suffers from hypochondriasis, which has got worse during the current pandemic.

As per reports, he found a video of the Indian psychiatrist and reached out to him. To his surprise, the Indian doctor has urged his Pakistani counterparts to provide further help to his patient ‘across the border’.

On May 8, consultant psychiatrist Dr Satyakant Trivedi received a message from country code ‘0092’. After which, he returned the call.he patient, who suffers from hypochondriasis, which has got worse during the current pandemic.

The person was a 35-year old Pakistani. He moved to his home country from Scotland, as soon as the Covid-19 pandemic was declared.

The patient, whose name is not being revealed, suffers from hypochondriacs, explained Dr Trivedi.

“In such conditions, people assume and are alarmed to have a condition they hear about. In this case, it was Covid for the Pakistani,” he said.

Patients become unduly alarmed about any physical or psychological symptoms they detect, no matter how minor the symptom may be, and are convinced that they or others have, or are about to be diagnosed with, a serious illness.

After a few calls, Dr Trivedi diagnosed the condition. “Given the present telemedicine laws, cross border prescription is not permitted. I have provided a list of doctors who the gentleman can contact in Lahore. I’ve also given my prognosis of the situation,” he added.

The patient across the border is from Burewala in Punjab, Pakistan, Dr Trivedi said.
