Apple will unveil a new iPhone and maybe even a second-generation smartwatch at a special event in San Francisco on Wednesday.
The rumour mill has been grinding away with talk of iPhone 7 models that will boast faster chips, more sophisticated cameras, and improved software while doing away with jacks for plugging in wired headphones.
Here are 10 things that the new Apple iPhone 7 could offer to its prospective buyers.
1. No headphone jack
Apple is expected to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from the bottom of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus meaning users will have to switch to wireless or Lightning port headphones
2. Pressure-sensitive home button
The new iPhone is said to have a pressure-sensitive home button that will sit flush to the face of the device with the TouchID sensor under the screen
3. Dual-lens camera for iPhone 7 Plus
Apple is upgrading its cameras in both phones, with the iPhone 7 Plus getting an all-new dual-lens camera that could have the ability to film 4K video
4. Two black models, one glossy
The phones will probably come in five colours with “space black” replacing “space grey” and the introduction of a new glossy black colour
5. Faster processor
A new, faster chip called the A10 will power the 7 and 7 Plus. According to reports it could be twice as fast as the current A9 chip
6. Additional RAM
With Android smartphones offering RAM up to 6GB on devices in 2016, Apple will take a cue from them and will offer 2GB RAM on iPhone 7 and 3GB RAM on iPhone 7 Plus
7. More storage
Apple introduced 4K video recording in 2015 on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, but offered just 16GB storage on the entry level iPhone. This time around the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is rumoured to come with a storage capacity of 32 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB
8. Apple iPhone 7 price similar to the last iPhone
Apple iPhone 6s were expensive when they were launched in 2015. This time around the US Dollar value is the same as it was last year. So the prices that are expected on the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus will be similar to what we saw on the 6s and 6s Plus.
9. No more antenna lines
This picture appears to give us our clearest view yet of what the iPhone 7 will look like. Emerging on Chinese social media, it shows a device that’s very similar to the current iPhone 6s, albeit with a couple of small changes.
10. Waterproof iPhone
According to a report in the China-based Commercial Times , Apple is working on a new “compound material” that repels water for use in its forthcoming iPhone.
This new material will also reportedly remove the need for the two strips of plastic that run across the back of the current generation of iPhones to allow mobile signals to reach the antennas.
