Congress women’s wing protested on Friday outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarter in Delhi with bangles over a recent attack that claimed lives of security personnel in Kashmir.  Recently, the opposition lashed out at Union minister Smriti Irani over the “barbaric” killing and mutilation of two Indian soldiers saying, if Irani would like to “gift bangles” to PM Modi as she had wanted to send to former PM Manmohan Singh in 2013 after a similar attack.

Taking a jibe at Irani, Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Tuesday wondered if Irani would send bangles to PM Modi now as she had wanted to send to former PM Singh over the similar attack during the Congress rule.

Sibal’s remark was an answer to Irani’s response during a terror attack on Indian soldiers in 2013. Addressing a public meeting, she had offered to send bangles to Singh who was the PM of India then.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the barbaric attack by the Pakistanis and the mutilating of the bodies of two of our soldiers,” the Congress spokesperson had said.

“During the UPA regime, there was a woman MP (Smriti Irani) who said the Prime Minister should be gifted bangles. Will the same MP who is now a Minister send bangles to Prime Minister Narendra Modi?” Sibal asked.

He also attacked the government saying, it will have time to protect the borders “only if they have time to spare from election campaigns.” “What kind of a government is this that despite knowing that Pakistan will not change its ways, they invited the ISI to Pathankot,” said Sibal, referring to the Pakistani team that went to Pathankot to probe the 2016 terror attack on an Indian airbase.

Additionally, the national secretary of the Indian Youth Congress Radhika Khera took to twitter to slam Irani over her remarks. Radhika on Tuesday posted a screenshot of the order she placed for bangles which are directed to be delivered to Irani’s residence.
