After a row of media reports over deteriorating maintenance and unhygienic atmosphere of primary schools after since rain, Kempaiah B P, a block education officer personally cleaned a toilet at the Kannada Lower Primary School Kanumanahalli in Bangarpet taluk, Karnataka on Wednesday.

“I visited the school and found that two of the three toilets were clogged. I decided to clean it. Later, teachers and the students joined in and helped me clean the school,” said BEO Kempaiah, as quoted by a national daily, The Hindu.

The officer got to his knees and started cleaning the toilet with help of a brush. He then removed the block and flushed water.

The officer said that he was shocked to realise that girl students go home for toilet during class hours. “A show cause notice will be issued to the persons concerned over the issue,” said Kempaiah.

After cleaning the toilets, he inspected the school and also ate the midday meal with students. He later instructed teachers to keep the school clean and asked them to involve the alumni association to improve the condition of the premise.
