Varanasi: BJP MLA from Bhadohi, Ravindra Nath Tripathi and his five sons received a clean chit from police on Saturday. While MLA Ravindra Nath Tripathi’s nephew got arrested in gang-rape case.
A woman accused the MLA, his five sons and his nephew of raping her for the past six years and others during the 2017 state elections.
Nilesh Tripathi, one of the MLA sons was under the custody on charges of threatening and manhandling but he was released afterwards on the basis of a personal bond.
The SP of Bhadohi RB Singh said that during the probe into the gang-rape case, evidence was found against the nephew of the lawmaker, following which he was arrested.
There was other evidence which was found against the MLA’s son Nitesh for manhandling and threatening, he was also taken into the custody, said the superintendent of police.
Bhadohi Kotwali police lodged an FIR against Tripathi and his kin on the complaint filed by a woman on February 9.
Bhadohi SP had assigned an ASP to look into the matter After submission of probe report, the FIR was lodged against Tripathi, his five sons- Sachin, Chandrabhushan, Deepak, Prakash, Nitesh and nephew Sandeep under sections 376D, 313, 504 and 506 of the IPC, police said.
