Bihar Coronavirus Updates: Highest single-day spike, Tejashwi attacks Nitish government, JDU MLC tests positive

The capital city, Patna has broken its previous record of coronavirus infections on Tuesday. The district reported 265 fresh COVID-19 positive cases.

With 749 new COVID-19 cases, Bihar recorded its highest single day spike. The tally of the total number of infections has surged to 13,274. Till now, 9,338 patients have been recovered in the state. The death toll stands at 90. So far, 2,69,277 samples have been tested.

Patna breaks record of COVID-19 cases

The capital city, Patna has broken its previous record of coronavirus infections on Tuesday. The district reported 265 fresh COVID-19 positive cases. Earlier on June 29, the district received the highest 109 positive. The new infections include the son of a mayor, two corporators, a doctor from IGIMS, four PMCH personnel, and several VIPs. With this, the number of corona-infected in Patna district has surged to 1,407.

Ward 38 councillor tests positive

The councillor of Ward 38 has been found positive. Along with the councillor representatives of Ward 41 and Ward 62 and their sons have also been found positive. The mayor’s representative said that the coronavirus test will be conducted for the Mayor. All the personnel of the corporate headquarters will be screened from Wednesday.

650 samples for VIP including officers, personnel and several MLCs were tested in the IGIMS lab. About 50 samples were found positive for COVID-19. After the test conducted in Patna AIIMS, 30 people were tested positive for the infection.  At the same time, several personnel from Guru Gobind Singh Hospital and TB DC office have also been found positive.

Tejashwi Yadav attacks Nitish Kumar government

Given the alarming rise in coronavirus cases in the state, leader of RJD Tejashwi Yadav recently attacked the Nitish Kumar government and accused the state government of doing nothing. Yadav further said that that there is neither testing nor treatment in Bihar.

Taking it to the Twitter, he wrote, “Corona infection has increased exponentially in Bihar and the government has no worries, neither for testing nor for treatment of infected persons. The entire cabinet, administration and government are busy in preparing for elections. The government is also hiding data. If the government does not see through this, the situation may become more explosive by August-September”.

JD(U) MLC tests positive for COVID-19

After the executive chairman of the Assembly, Awdhesh Narayan Singh tested positive for COVID-19,  the JD(U)  MLC Ghulam Ghaus and his wife have also tested positive for the virus. The executive chairman had recently administered the oath to 9 MLCs. The MLCs who were administered the oath were sampled.

Coronavirus reaches CMs’ residence

CM Nitish Kumar’s niece tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday after which she was admitted at AIIMS Patna for treatment. Samples of the chief minister besides those who were in regular touch with him had been collected over the weekend. Nitish Kumar and Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and legislative assembly speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary tested negative for coronavirus among the several high profile people who had come in contact with a BJP functionary who tested positive for the disease on Saturday. Four of the 88 contacts of the BJP MLC have, however, tested positive.

Meanwhile, India’s total coronavirus cases have increased to 7,42,417. The country now has 2,64,944 active cases out of the total that have been reported to date. On Tuesday, the tally breached the 7-lakh mark and even the death toll went beyond 20,000. The total number of deaths that have been reported so far has increased to 20,642.
