Bihar Coronavirus Updates: IGIMS director tests positive, Six doctors who attended a ceremony found positive, PMCH resumes COVID-19 testing

Coronavirus in Bihar: With 276 news COVID-19 cases in Bihar, the tally of the total number of infections has surged to 12,140. Till now, 8,765 patients have been recovered in the state. The death toll stands at 90. In the last 24 hours, 6,799 samples have been tested. So far, 2,57,896 samples have been tested. 36 out of 38 districts reported COVID-19 positive cases on Sunday.

Bihar Health Department also traced the coronavirus on Sunday. Health Department Director-In-Chief Naveen Kumar Sinha and his two staff were tested positive for COVID-19. After three new cases have come up in the department, samples of all others who have come in contact with them are now being tested.

With 52 coronavirus positive cases, Begusarai district on Sunday recorded the highest positive cases. The capital city of Bihar has crossed the 1k mark on Saturday. With the increment in the novel coronavirus cases in Gaya district, the administration sealed several areas on Sunday. 34 people were tested positive for the virus on Saturday. The sealed areas will only be opened for emergency services. These areas include New Godown Road, Chowk, Ramna Road, Bajaja Road, Sarai Road, KP Road, JB Road, Bari Road, BN Jha Road, Tikari Road, and Murarpur Road.

IGIMS director tests positive for COVID-19:

The director of IGIMS was tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday. The director had attended several meetings in the past few days and has been in touch with other hospital doctors. However, he has no symptoms now. The nurses and other health workers in IGIMS were also tested positive.

Six doctors who attended a ceremony found COVID-19 positive:

The number of coronavirus cases in Muzaffarpur district has been increasing steadily. On Sunday, 387 sample tests were reported from SKSMH, with 377 reports negative, while ten reports have been positive. In ten positive, eight cases are Muzaffarpur and one each from Sheohar and Saharsa. Six of the eight positives are junior doctors of SKMCH. These doctors are the PG students.

As per the reports, six days ago, all the students attended the farewell ceremony ahead of the department. A sampling of other students who came in contact with these six doctors will also be conducted on Monday. Hostels, where all the infected were staying, cannot be sanitized.

PMCH resumes COVID-19 testing:

The coronavirus test at PMCH has been resumed from Sunday. The tests are conducted in the lab of its microbiology department and were closed for three days after several senior doctors and personnel of the lab tested positive for COVID-19. The lab was to remain closed from Friday to Sunday but was reopened on Sunday after the order passed by the Bihar Health Department.

Meanwhile, India, on Monday, has overtaken Russia as the third worst-hit country by coronavirus after the total number of cases neared seven lakh. The Union Health Ministry has reported 24,248 cases and 425 deaths in the last 24 hours. The fresh cases and deaths have pushed the total cases in the country to 6,97,413 and the death count to 19,693. The recovery rate stands at 60.85 per cent.
