Bihar Elections 2020: The National Democratic Alliance is surging ahead of the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar polls on Tuesday as the counting of votes for the 243 assembly seats is underway. After initial trends showed a close neck-and-neck contest between the two rival alliances, the incumbent Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal United (JDU) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance seem to be pulling its weight, leading in 128 seats, well above the halfway mark of 122.

The BJP is ahead in 71 seats, while the JDU is leading in 51 seats. Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal-led Mahagathbandhan of 5 parties is now leading in 108 seats with the party ahead in 58 seats. The Congress is ahead in 22 seats. Among other major parties, the LJP is ahead in 4 seats. The polls, first amid the COVID-19 pandemic, will decide the fate of the incumbent Nitish for the 4th term.

The three-phased elections ended on November 7. The anti-incumbency sentiment and the Nitish government’s handling of COVID-19 are factors that could play a major role this time.

The search gap between Tejashwi and Nitish Kumar was 52-17 at 6:32 am. According to Google Trends, Nitish and Tejashwi’s searches in Meghalaya are 50-50. While the search for Nitish Kumar keyword in Bihar is 46%, Tejashwi search is 54%. In addition, the search for Tejashwi keywords in Himachal Pradesh has gone up to 62%. In addition, Tejashwi search volume in Punjab is 70% and Nitish’s 30%.

The 2020 Bihar election is taking place at a time when the country is undergoing the coronavirus pandemic. Polling, campaigning and all other processes of an election were held according to the Covid-19 guidelines laid down by the Election Commission of India.
