The fierce nuns in the Kuravilangad Convent all set to go to any extent to make sure that the justice to the victim (nun) at the convent is done. Staging a hunger strike at the High Court junction against the delay in the arrest of Bishop Franco Mulakkal, the nuns also interacted with media. There are five nuns from Kuravilangad Convent who participated in the strike.

Even though it was a peaceful protest, the placards that the nuns held during the protest spoke all they want. The slogans on the placards read, ‘Why save Franco Mulakkal?’, ‘We need justice’, ‘Police should stand for justice’ and ‘Our lives are in danger’.

“The protest will continue until justice is served. The victim has come forward after going through a lot of agonies. Our aim is to ensure justice to her. We are facing threat. Father Erthayil had talked with us. They are still raising minor threats,” said a nun in the press conference.

The nuns have clearly refused to leave church even though they have been disowned. The grieving nuns shares, “Now the church itself has disowned us. But we have not left the church. We are fighting while reamining to be a part of the church. We will fight until the victim gets justice”.

“We have no rich financial status like the church. We only have the dress that we have worn. We don’t hope that we will get anything from the church. But we won’t move away from our stand.”

They added, “We have already filed many complaints within the church. Complaints were submitted to Pala bishop, Mar Alencherry, Bhagalpur bishop, Bishop Kurian Valiya Kandathil and to three places in Rome. We had approached the Pope too. We had sent a letter to a letter to the state secretary in Rome when we didn’t get justice.”

“We didn’t get any response even after giving complaints. The church could at least say that they will investigate the issue. But, they have not done it till now. That is why we had to stage a public protest. Even the Pope didn’t respond to the complaint,” said the nuns in the press conference.
