In a defensive mode CPI state secretary, Kanam Rajendran has stood up for the party and said that the allegations raised against party MLA PK Sasi are an internal matter of CPM. Minister Balan also said that the actions will be taken against Shoranur MLA Sasi if he is found guilty in the alleged molestation case filed by a DYFI woman leader. He also added that there is nothing against law in party investigating the case.

“I will voice my opinion only after knowing if justice was served in the woman’s case or not. I can comment after seeing the developments in the case. Everyone has the freedom to express their disagreement,” said Kanam Rajendran.

The CPI has been emphasising that the existing law allows a woman to file a complaint if she is sexually abused. But the woman did not abide by the law and has lodged a complaint within the party. The party is conducting a probe into the issue and will take appropriate action.

AK Balan also emphasised that the complainant can proceed to further actions if she isn’t satisfied with the steps taken by the party.
