On Thursday, the opposition BJP in Bihar caused a commotion in the state assembly and walked out after its demands for an apology from a CPI(ML) Liberation MLA were greeted with an angry response.

CPI(ML) MLAs insisted that BJP MLA Sanjay Saraogi apologise on the floor of the House for using abusive and intimidating language against Mahboob Alam, the legislature party leader of the Left party, on Wednesday.

Before the start of the House’s proceedings, CPI(ML)-L legislators who support the Nitish Kumar government from the outside mounted a protest outside the Vidhan Sabha in response to Saraogi’s comments.

“Saraogi had a problem with the language used by Alam, who never referred to a specific person and made disparaging observations about the BJP, its parent organisation RSS, and their ideology. But Saraogi singled out Alam and used language befitting a street thug against our leader, CPI(ML)-L MLA Sandeep Sourav told reporters.

At the outset of the House session, Satyadeo Ram of the ultra-left party demanded an apology from Saraogi.

Opposition leader Vijay Kumar Sinha, who had risen to urge for a discussion on an adjournment motion on the issue of irregularities in competitive exams, was drawn into the scuffle and insisted that Alam was to blame because he had started everything.

State minister Shravan Kumar objected, stating that the Leader of the Opposition was squandering the time of the House, which had a significant amount of business to conduct.

After that, Speaker Awadh Bihari Vajpayee conducted the Question Period.

Nonetheless, the noise persisted as numerous agitated BJP MLAs entered the well.

A concerned Speaker warned them not to approach the Treasury benches. By 11.30 a.m., the BJP legislators had departed following an acrimonious half-hour-long discussion.
