Days after senior BJP leader, Ramesh Arora, asked for a ban on momos, the MLC is leading a protest in Jammu against the selling of the popular street food in the state on Thursday.

The BJP MLC had criticised the dumplings as being both addictive and a health hazard. He felt the need to boycott them immediately as he thinks that youngsters are getting addicted to this street food.

Placards with the words “Silent Killer.. Momo.. Dheere-dheere maut ki or (Inching towards death slowly)” were seen at the protest.

“Ajinomoto (monosodium glutamate) used in momos’ recipe is harmful to health and can even cause cancer. They have been found to be the root cause of several life-threatening diseases,” Arora said.

He was strongly criticised for his statement and it caused outrage all across the country.

He had also met the state’s health minister, Bali Bhagat, to discuss the issue.
