The Black Lives Matter campaign was reignited this year after the killing of two African-Americans. Alton Sterling, a 47-year-old, was pinned to the ground in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by two white officers and shot several times at point blank range. Police were responding to a 911 caller who said a man was threatening someone with a gun outside a convenience store. Separately, Philandro Castile was fatally shot in St Paul, Minnisota, for informing an officer that he was carrying a licensed weapon.
The American law enforcement is being criticised for distrusting African-Americans and targeting them. Support poured in for Black Americans from across the country, and even parts of the United Kingdom.
