Mumbai: Bollywood is mourning the sudden loss of actor Mukul Dev, who passed away late Friday night at the age of 54. Known for his versatile performances across films like Son of Sardaar, R… Rajkumar, and Jai Ho, Dev’s passing has sent shockwaves across the Indian film fraternity.

The news, first confirmed by his close friend actress Deepshikha Nagpal on Instagram, triggered an outpouring of grief among fans and colleagues. “RIP,” she posted, sharing a throwback photo. As of Saturday, friends and industry colleagues were seen gathering at his residence, though an official statement from the family is still awaited. Reports indicate that the actor had been unwell for several days before his death, but the exact cause remains undisclosed.

Born in New Delhi into a Punjabi family, Mukul Dev was the younger brother of actor Rahul Dev. His father, Hari Dev, served as an assistant commissioner of police and exposed Mukul early on to diverse cultures, including Afghan, Pashto, and Persian influences.

Long before stepping into the limelight, Mukul showed a flair for performance. In Class 8, he earned his first paycheque by impersonating Michael Jackson for a Doordarshan dance show. Interestingly, before pursuing acting, he trained as a pilot at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi.

Mukul’s entertainment career officially took off in 1996 with the TV series Mumkin, where he played Vijay Pandey. He soon became a familiar face on television, appearing in shows like Ek Se Badhkar Ek and hosting the first season of Fear Factor India. On the big screen, he made his debut as ACP Rohit Malhotra in Dastak, which also marked Sushmita Sen’s Bollywood entry.

Over the years, Mukul built a solid reputation for playing both lead and supporting roles across genres, balancing mainstream blockbusters with offbeat projects. His last film appearance was in Anth The End.

The Indian entertainment world, still processing recent losses, is grappling with another departure that feels too sudden, too soon. As tributes pour in, fans remember Mukul Dev not just for his filmography but for his easygoing charm and commitment to his craft.

Details regarding memorial services or family statements are awaited.

For India’s young generation, who grew up watching Mukul on both TV and film, his passing marks the end of a familiar chapter in Bollywood’s evolving story.
