The Supreme Court Friday refused to entertain a petition seeking postponement of the Bihar Assembly elections due to the coronavirus pandemic. A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan and comprising Justices R S Reddy and M R Shah left it to the Election Commission decide the schedule.

The Supreme Court said that states/UTs can ask the UGC to extend exam deadline for final year exams. The decision taken by the state disaster management authority shall prevail over the UGC deadline, the SC said. However, The decision to cancel the exam and promote students is beyond their jurisdiction, it said.

Rafale fighter jets will be formally inducted into the Indian Air Force by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on September 10, The Rafale induction ceremony will be held after the return of the Defence Minister from Russia. Rajnath Singh is scheduled to attend the meeting of the Defence Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member countries from September 4 to 6, at the Ambala airbase in Haryana. French Defence Minister Florence Parly will be invited for the induction ceremony.

Actor Rhea Chakraborty has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death probe. She reached the DRDO guest house at about 10.40 am, where the CBI team is stationed to probe the Sushant Singh Rajput case.

The actress said that she never claimed to have spoken to Sushant Singh Rajput on the phone and that she has already cleared his flat. With 77,266 cases in 24 hours, the coronavirus tally in India rose to 3,387,500 on Friday with the death toll at 61,529, as per the latest figures released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Chief secretaries and health secretaries of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir, attended the meeting with Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba. Apart from a high caseload, these states and J&K also account for 89 percent of the COVID deaths.

Centre permits meals on flights, airlines can put flyers on no-fly list for refusing to wear mask

The Centre has permitted the airlines to serve pre-packed snacks, meals and beverages on domestic flights and hot meals on international flights, according to an official order, PTI reported. Moreover, any passenger who refuses to wear a face mask in a flight can be put on the no-fly list by the airline, said a senior official of the aviation regulator DGCA. In an order issued on Thursday, the Civil Aviation Ministry said, "Airlines may serve pre-packed snacks/meals/pre-packed beverages on domestic flights depending on the duration of flight. Airlines and charter flight operators can "serve hot meals and limited beverages" on international flights "as per the standard practices."  The ministry said only single-use disposable trays, plates and cutlery should be used while serving food or beverages in domestic and international flights. "Crew shall wear a fresh set of gloves for every meal/beverage service," it noted.
