The Centre on Sunday agreed to grant an exemption to Tamil Nadu from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses this year. The decision was announced by union minister Nirmala Sitharaman at an event in Chennai.
State health minister, Vijayabaskar confirmed that the state government will submit a draft ordinance in this regard to the Union government on Monday.
When asked about why the Centre delayed the decision, Vijayabaskar said that it was because of legal complications and also because of the apex court’s ruling on the issue.
The minister assured the public that steps would be taken to revamp the state board syllabus so as to prepare the Tamil Nadu students for the national-level entrance test.
