CERT-In Issues Urgent Alert: With its latest bulletin, the Indian government has issued a security warning to millions of Android users.

It has been highlighted that these exploits can allow attackers to gain sensitive information and execute arbitrary code.

Android versions old and new are affected by the new security vulnerability:

  • – Android 12
  • – Android 12L
  • – Android 13
  • – Android 14

In India, there are likely to be more than 30 million phones running these versions, making the high severity alert a worrying issue not just for users but also for security agencies.

A number of vulnerabilities have been discovered in the framework, Google Play updates, kernel, ARM components, MediaTek components, and Qualcomm close-sourced components, according to CERT-In.

There are deep-rooted issues with Android smartphones, and these manufacturers regularly address security risks.

Samsung, Realme, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Vivo are among the brands that need to release security patches immediately.

In order to fix the Indian government’s identified issues, Google and its partners must roll out security patches.

The attacker could obtain sensitive information, gain elevated privileges, and cause denial of service conditions on the targeted system by exploiting these vulnerabilities.

How to update Android security software from CERT-IN

To ensure the latest Android patch is installed on the phone, go to Settings – Software Update – Install Update – Restart phone.
