The poll season has totally arrived in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram, where assembly elections are scheduled for November and December 2018 and several politicians are busy in picking the appropriate group for himself. Earlier, politicians like Padma Joshi, Ghanshyam Tiwari and many more have switched from their respective parties and a political stalwart of Chhattisgarh, Ram Dayal Uike, a close aide of former chief minister Ajit Jogi switched from Congress and made the news on Saturday.
Pali Tanakhar MLA and former Congress working president of Chhattisgarh Ram Dayal Uike joined the BJP in presence of BJP chief Amit Shah and chief minister Raman Singh in Bilaspur.
Uike is a four-time winner from Pali constituency in Chhattisgarh. His influence in tribal voters and also his cordial relation with several tribal leaders could provide a boost to incumbent BJP government, sources claimed.
Stating the move to join BJP as ‘Ghar Wapsi’, Uike said that “CM Raman Singh has been making efforts for overall development of tribals and backward people and his development-oriented policies have impressed me to rejoin my home part”.
As per the sources, Uike’s decision came suddenly, as earlier he was highly vocal against BJP on all the major fronts. Reports are also claiming that Ajit Jogi could be the main force behind all the developments, as Jogi is mainly targeting Congress in Chhattisgarh.
Ram Dayal Uike’s relations with Ajit Jogi
Following the formation of Chhattisgarh in 2000, Ram Dayal Uike, who was a sitting MLA from Marwahi, vacated his seat for Ajit Jogi, which made Ajit Jogi’s entry into Chhattisgarh assembly. Later, Uike joined the Congress and created a positive image of Congress among tribal voters. Since then, both the leaders hold a very cordial relation with each other.
