Ahead of the Chhattisgarh elections, MLAs RK Rai from Gundardehi and Siyaram Kaushik from Bilha, will contest the assembly polls under the banner of Janta Congress Chhattisgarh, officially declared on Thursday in Raipur.

Earlier, MLAs RK Rai and Siyaram Kaushik were suspended by the Congress party for making ‘anti-party statements. Both Rai and Kaushik have supported Amit Jogi in Chhattisgarh on every issue and since 2016, both were involved in many anti- Congress activities.

Rai had said in 2016 “Many leaders of all ranks were feeling stifled within the party (Congress), and tribal representatives were being ignored”. Rai had also called Rahul Gandhi an ‘immature’ person.

The Ajit Jogi-led Janta Congress Chhatisgarh has declared 48 candidates till now, including Rai and Kaushik. As per the grand alliance agreement, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Communist Party of India (CPI) and Janta Congress Chhatisgarh will contest on a total of 55 seats. The BSP will contest on 33 and the CPI on 2 seats respectively. Ajit Jogi has been declared as the chief ministerial candidate of the grand alliance.

Terming Janta Congress Chhattisgarh as a regional alternative to the BJP and Congress, Ajit Jogi’s party is gaining momentum in tribal areas of Chhattisgarh and could play a small sport for big contenders, sources claimed.
