Ahead of assembly polls in Chhattisgarh, the triangular contest between Janta Congress Chhattisgarh, Congress and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) have become more interesting after the recent political developments in the state. According to sources, anti-incumbency is totally evident in BJP ruled state, but Congress has failed to utilize the whole development.

Till now, during all Congress rallies and campaigns, the party lacked on the grounds of convincing people towards them.

“It is a fact that the Congress campaign against the BJP in Chhattisgarh lacks punch,” said Chhattisgarh-based social activist Vikram Singhal. “Its leaders have not raised issues with the ferocity expected of an Opposition party that has been out of power for 15 years”, he added.

As per the reports, since Congress does not have a chief ministerial face and conversely, both BJP and Janta Congress Chhattisgarh have mass leaders, Congress is not able to create a big impact among the voters.

Frail State Leadership

Since from the inception of Bhupesh Baghel’s regime in Chhattisgarh Congress, several incidents occurred in the state, however, the party was not able to utilize a single agenda against the government. Most importantly, there was a huge issue related to incumbent government, ‘how Raman Singh led BJP government virtually traded the state’s rich natural resources to corporates and industrial houses’, however, Congress did not make any clear opinion on the issue.

Ajit Jogi’s Crucial Role

Janta Congress Chhattisgarh Chief Ajit Jogi is the biggest obstacle for Congress, as former Chief Minister is damaging Congress vote bank. Recent induction of Ramdayal Uike in BJP, is a big blow to Congress. Uike is a close aide of Jogi and an influential leader in the tribal community of Chhattisgarh and sources claimed that Jogi played a crucial role in the whole episode.

Chhattisgarh assembly elections will be held in two phases, November 12 and November 20. All three major contenders are in the aggressive mode, but Chhattisgarh Congress leaders have admitted that “We are in trouble” and it is a fact that, during 2013 assembly elections, in a neck to neck competition BJP managed the victory.

There is a big buzz in political circles that, only Rahul Gandhi’s campaigning could provide a boost to the party’s cadres.
