Chhattisgarh: Sukma district hospital lacks basic amenities

Sukma district of Chhattisgarh is always in news for Naxal attack and violence.  On September 1, one security personnel was killed and three others were injured in the Maoist attack.

Sukma district hospital which is the largest in the area lacks basic medical facility. The hospital also lacks in basic amenities that include an insufficient bed for patients, lack of drinking water facility. Cleanliness is a major concern as mosquitoes are prevalent in large numbers in and around the hospital surroundings.

Patients admitted to the hospital for malaria treatment complained of mosquitoes in the entire hospital area. It also leaves another patient at high risk of contracting malaria, a vector born disease. And the risk of malaria epidemic is potentially very strong in the rainy season.

A patient said that though the hospital building is new and there are water ATM’s in the premise but most of it has stopped working. They have to buy the water bottle from the private shop outside.

Despite all the development claims made by the state chief minister, this is the harsh reality of the govt run hospitals in the heart of the violence-prone district. Such is the difference between words of comfort and reality that needs to be taken care off as well on a priority basis.

Ironically chief minister Raman Singh is busy in Atal Vikas Yatra and promoting the theme song for the bright future of the state. He is celebrating the 15 years of development done under BJP regime in the state.
