The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) seems to have found a common ground to bring the security forces and tribal community together in order to combat the Leftist radical elements of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and other areas with a sizeable tribal presence. The ITBP in Kondagaon village of Chhattisgarh have started a unique initiative of teaching tribal girls hockey free of cost.

“When sir asked us would you play hockey, we said we will play. Now, they have been giving training to us. We are preparing ourselves for state-level tournaments,” said Chandrika, a hockey player.

These girls have been working extremely hard and now with the help of proper training being provided to them by ITBP instructors, their dreams seem to have got wings.

It is believed that young minds are easier to become targets of radical elements as groups like Naxals can use these soft targets to fulfill their vile emotions.

With such sport-based interventions, tribal children, who have always been the soft target of Naxals, can be encouraged to get involved in positive activities, thus leading to complete eradication of these left-wing radicals. Making the girls pick up hockey sticks over probable guns means the future generations are also ensured of staying away from the clutches of dirty politics and everlasting atrocities.
