Going all out to woo Dalits in the run up to 2017 Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, BJP president Amit Shah on Friday accused Congress, BSP and Samajwadi Party of exploiting the community for their ‘own political interests’.

In an address at Dhamma Chetna Yatra Samapan programme in Kanpur, Amit Shah said, “Rahul Gandhi’s ‘nana’ (Jawaharlal Nehru) did not allow (B R) Ambedkar to go to Parliament… Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati have exploited Dalits for their own political interests whenever they have got an opportunity.”

Furthermore, about the SP, Shah said, “It is a divided house and can’t govern the state… (SP) is a failure on all fronts.”

The BJP chief also said the Dalit community should ‘understand that they have been used and got nothing’, while adding that the BJP got the support of Dalits during last Lok Sabha polls and that PM Narendra Modi came to power with Dalits’ blessings.
