Congress has appointed senior leader Ahmed Patel as new treasurer replacing Motilal Vohra. Whereas, the mystery continues over BJP treasure. Piyush Goyal was last declared treasurer of the Bhartiya Janata Party, who is now a minister in the Modi cabinet.
If Goyal is still handling the post of the treasurer in the party, it becomes a fit case for conflict of interest.
The BJP, with a declared mammoth income of Rs. 1034 crore during 2016-17 does not want the Election Commision or the people to know who is its treasurer. The word is that the BJP, in its declarations to the Election Commision has been hiding the identity of its treasurer for the past few years. Party’s website does not have any details on the same, and no announcements have been made in the media regarding this when the names of new office-bearers were announced.
As per The Wire report, Former Chief Election Commissioners appear to be of the view that the Election Commision has not exercised its powers to the fullest extent in this particular case, thereby giving a free hand to the BJP.
According to Economic Times report, a former aide of Narendra Modi while he was chief minister of Gujarat, Parindu Bhagat could be party’s new treasurer.
