Commenting over the Assam’s final National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft in which 4 million names have been excluded Anand Sharma said that the indigenous people, tea plantation workers have been effected badly. The NRC was released today morning by the government. This also questions the credibility of the process. This has interstate repercussion that involves humanitarian aspects and our relationship with the neighbouring state of Bangladesh. So ultimately, the international relations with neighbouring country Bangladesh should also be kept under check.

Congress stressed on matter of separation where the families are feared to be separated because of this NRC. Anand Sharma said the families should not be separated and that the government of Assam should hold a meeting with all political parties of the state. He said that the issue should be resolved on the lines of Assam Accord, signed in 1985 during former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s regime.
