Coronavirus Outbreak: Sikkim bars entry of foreign nationals

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has escalated to 31 in India on Friday

From Thursday, the Sikkim government has banned the entry of foreigners in the northeastern state. The number of positive coronavirus cases has been on the surge in India. On Thursday, Sikkim home department has issued a notification stating there are no inner line permits being issued as of now.

It is mandatory for foreigners to have inner line permits to visit the northeastern Himalayan state.

Here is a notification issued by Govt of Sikkim Home Department restricting the issuing of an inner line permit in view of the rise in coronavirus cases in India

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has escalated to 31 in India on Friday.

A Delhi resident has been tested positive. The patient has travelled to Thailand and Malaysia before. Media reports suggest the patient is in hospital quarantine and stable.

According to the latest advisory issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, all international passengers irrespective of nationality have to undergo universal medical screening.

Adequate screening measures have been set up and nine more airports have been added to the existing 21, bringing the total to 30 airports.

According to Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, till now over 6 lakh people have been screened at 21 international airports. Over one million people coming through the open borders with Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar have also been screened for the coronavirus.

The COVID -19 outbreak has infected more than 94,000 people across the globe. The virus till now has claimed 3,222 lives.
