After the death of Ramji Mahato, who was on foot from Delhi, his mother and sister expressed their inability to come to Banaras and take their bodies because they did not have a single penny.

Ramji Mahato, who went from Delhi to Begusarai on foot breathed his last on the way. The incident occurred on April 16. But his sister and mother were unable to carry their corpse because the poor-labour family did not have a single penny amid the coronavirus lockdown crisis.

However, the Rohinia outpost in Banaras district, Incharge Gaurav Pandey, spoke of providing financial assistance to the families of Ramji Mahato, but how it was a big problem to reach Both Banaras amidst the lockdown.

Ramji’s mother and sister told them that their relatives live in Banaras and would arrive at the time of post mortem. However, till the late night of Thursday 16th April, the Rohinia police station was not contacted but when the police approached them, the phone switched off as soon as they heard the news of death, which led to the funeral of Ramji in the absence of family and relatives.

“We tried our best to make their funeral, but when they could not come, we made their last rites after the post mortem on the evening of 20th April”, says Rohinia Outpost Incharge Gaurav Pandey. “I have just returned to Ramji’s funeral.”

In the case of Ramji Mahato, doubts were being expressed that he might be corona positive, but his report came negative. ‘

In a conversation with Rohinia Police station Incharge Inspector P R Tripathi, he said, “When Ramji Mahto fell on foot, his breathing was fast. The people called the ambulance, but the ambulance personnel did not hand him over. Ambulance personnel said whether the address is Ramji Corona suspicious and they do not even have security kits. Ramji was tormented on the road, after which the Mohansarai outpost in-charge reprimanded the ambulance personnel and took him to the hospital, but Ramji died.

The police’s attitude towards the incident is being appreciated, especially the humanity shown by the post-charge Gaurav Pandey. When a labourer was lying on the road and the ambulance was not taking him, he went ahead and helped him to the hospital, but Ramji died in the middle.
