Cricket Legends Critique Pakistan’s Batting Techniques in World Cup: The Pakistan cricket team encountered criticism from their nation’s legendary cricketers on Saturday (October 14) in Ahmedabad, during a World Cup 2023 division match against India, due to their lackluster batting performance. The team led by Babar Azam was dismissed for 191 runs, with their final eight wickets falling for 36 runs.

Former Pakistan cricketers, such as Wasim Akram, Shoaib Malik, Moeen Khan, and Misbah-Ul-Haq, expressed their displeasure with the approach of their national team players towards Indian bowling on a local channel during India vs. Pakistan match.

Misbah-Ul-Haq, a former chief coach and selector, believed that Pakistan’s batsmen failed to make the most of their advantageous start, as evidenced by the dismissals of Mohammad Rizwan (49), Abdullah Shafique (36), and Imam-Ul-Haq (20).

Wasim Akram, a former Pakistani cricketer with over 900 international wickets, believed their batting was riddled with weak shot selection, citing Abdullah Shafique’s dismissal at the hands of Mohammed Siraj.

Silly shot by Abdullah Shafique to lose his wicket after getting set. The ball hit the middle (of his pad) and while he was trying to play to the mid-wicket. Pakistan’s innings were full of such mistakes,” said Akram.

Shoaib Malik, 41, an unselected player for the World Cup, expressed the opinion that the Pakistani batsmen’s strategy during the 31-40 over period was inadequate, as they lost five wickets and scored less than 40 runs. “Pakistan batsmen did not alter their batting strategy during the 31-40 over period, which occurs when the ball is worn and remains low. “At that time, playing square of the wicket was risky, so you progressed towards playing in the V. However, the conditions were not assessed, and we lost five wickets in that span,” Malik explained.

Malik added that Pakistani batsmen continued to play from the crease and did not make sufficient use of their feet throughout the match. Moin Khan, a former captain and wicket-keeper, concurred with Malik and further stated that Pakistani batsmen were overly lenient with the spinner by failing to adequately assault them with their feet.

“They didn’t play counter-attacking cricket. Babar Azam and Rizwan didn’t attack the spinners enough. Both of them lost their wickets in a phase when there was a requirement to up the run rate. Once they were gone, wickets kept on falling,”  he explained.
