Delhi Government Cracks Down on Construction Projects: 21 Site Issued Notices for Dust Norm Violations

Delhi Government Cracks Down on Construction Projects: Twenty-one construction sites were fined a total of Rs 8.35 crore on Saturday, the Delhi Environment Minister said in a press release, for violating anti-dust regulations. 1108 construction sites were inspected by teams conducting the Anti-Dust Campaign, according to the official statement, which resulted in the issuance of the penalties.

The Delhi Environment Ministry announced that 591 teams from thirteen departments, including DDA, MCD, DPCC, DCB, Jal Board, DSIIDC, PWD, Revenue, Delhi Metro, CPWD, and NDMC, have been formed as part of the anti-dust campaign. As per the official statement, teams have been directed to conduct routine site inspections and maintain vigilance.

“In order to reduce the pollution in Delhi during the winter season, CM Arvind Kejriwal announced the Winter Action Plan on 29 September. On the basis of this, the concerned departments have started to implement it on the ground. We have launched Green War Room, from where it’s being monitored,” said the press release “The Delhi government has succeeded in reducing pollution with the cooperation of the people. The government is running many campaigns to reduce pollution such as anti-dust campaign, spraying of bio decomposer, water sprinkling campaign with mobile anti-smog gun etc,” it added.

Delhi Environment Ministry mentioned, “The teams are constantly visiting construction sites. These teams will ensure that the construction guidelines are followed there. It’s mandatory to implement 14 norms on construction sites. The campaign was launched on October 7 and will run till 7 November.” “If any site refuses to follow the rules of dust control, action will be taken against it as per law. According to the NGT guidelines, a fine will be imposed for violation of the rule on the construction sites. If there is a severe violation then the construction site will be shut,” it added.

According to the press release, Rai instructed Environment Department officials today to receive daily reports from the anti-dust campaign teams. The official statement states that 1108 construction sites have been inspected to date, for which penalties of Rs 8.35 lakh have been imposed and 21 notices have been issued due to noncompliance with guidelines at some sites.

Furthermore, Rai urged the citizens of Delhi to file complaints on the Green Delhi App if they discovered any irregularities in the demolition or construction work. (ANI)
