Chandigarh: The panchayat election date has been announced in Punjab. Voting will happen on December 30 and the same day later in the evening after the voting is over, counting of votes will start. Official notification will be issued on December 15.
The nomination will start on 15 December and will end on 19 December. Candidate can withdraw nomination on December 21, scrutiny of nominations will happen on December 20.
Chief Election Commissioner of Punjab Jagpal Singh Sandhu has issued the election-related notification on Friday. Following the notification, the model code of conduct is in effect and will continue till the election process is over.
Sandhu said, “In this election, for 13276 Panchayats 83831 Panch will be elected. 17811 seats are reserved for scheduled caste male and 17811 seats are reserved for scheduled female. For general category women, 22690 seats are reserved, 4381 seats are reserved for backward class and 26315 seats are reserved for general category.”
There are total 12787395 registered voters in the state for these elections, out of which 6688245 male, 6066245 female, and 97 third gender voters. State Election Commission has established 17268 polling booths and 86340 personnel will be deputed on election duty.
Punjab CEC further stated that 40 to 50 observers will be deployed to ensure the fair conduct of the election process. The CEC has limited the election expenditure by Sarpanch to thirty thousand and for Panch, it is twenty thousand.
