A 32-year-old man and his childhood sweetheart held for allegedly killing the man’s wife and trying to project is as a suicide. The incident happened in Southwest Delhi’s Kishangarh.
The accused identified as Rahul Kumar Mishra, a mechanical engineer, and Padma Tiwari who works at an MNC in Gurgaon. On March 26, Kishangarh police station was informed by Fortis hospital that Pooja Rai was brought to the hospital by her husband and she was declared dead.
Since the man’s wife died after 7 years of marriage a probe into the matter was initiated. An autopsy was conducted at Safdarjung Hospital that revealed that the death was homicidal. The body was strangulated and had injury marks on her occipital bone.
After which the deceased’s father statement was recorded and a probe was started. Her husband, family members and his friend Padma who had visited their house on the same day of the death, were kept under surveillance.
During the interrogation of the accused, they were confronted with the errors in their statements and inquiry had revealed that they both were childhood lovers and the murder was planned to eliminate Pooja. The accused also told that they were schoolmates and had studied together. They were in a relationship but slowly lost touch.
They met again in 2015 and wanted to get married, however, their parents opposed the relationship citing different castes. Rahul’s marriage was fixed to Pooja, who also belonged to Sindri, Jharkhand, in January 2017. Rahul told Pooja about their relationship with the hope that she would refuse to get married to him but she didn’t and they got married in April that year.
But the duo kept their relationship alive even after marriage. Padma also helped Rahul to secure a job and Pooja has taunted her on it.
On the day of the killing, Padma went to meet Pooja at her house to execute the plan. She overpowered her and hit her head on the ground many times until she lied unconscious. Then he kept a letter close to the body to mislead her. The police said that in the evening she told Rahul that she had murdered Pooja.
They had written a suicide note in which they had mentioned how Pooja was in the guilt of duping a man that is why she committed suicide.
