The worldwide coronavirus lockdown has locked people inside their houses. To keep themselves busy and entertained, people are consuming OTT (Over the Top) platforms during the pandemic. Hotstar, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and so on are few of these platforms used immensely by the audience.
In India, even tier-2 and tier-3 people are using online entertainment platforms.
Hotstar chief product officer Varun Narang said, “the wave of growth in OTT fora will now come from small towns. 40 crore people have downloaded Hotstar in the country”.
98% of people on Hotstar watch Hindi Content, as per a study by the Statista Research Department.
OTT platforms are experiencing heavy traffic ever since the lockdown was declared. This is one of the reasons behind filmmakers releasing their upcoming movies on these platforms.
A source close to Mid-Day has revealed that director, Raghava Lawrence is already in talks with actor Akshay Kumar and he also feels that producers shouldn’t bear any kind of losses and hence might just release on the OTT platform.
Coronavirus pandemic has kept films, television series, and releases on a hold. Be it Bollywood or Hollywood, all the fraternities across the world are facing a huge crisis.
In the meantime, people are using smartphones and laptops abundantly. A few days ago, there was a report in the meantime, claiming that most users are spending time chatting with friends and family as well as doing business meetings on the video conferencing app.
