Fact Check: Punjab independent candidate crying over getting 5 votes bags 865 in record tally

The Lok Sabha election results were announced yesterday and PM Modi’s  Bhartiya Janata Party witnessed a thumping victory. While winners were joyous of their victory there were losers who couldn’t hold back their tears.

Among them, there was an independent candidate, Neetu Shutteran Wala from Jalandhar seat who was crying inconsolably because he got fewer votes but there is a twist in the story.

A video was doing rounds on social media where the candidate is seen crying not because he lost but because he managed to get only 5 votes despite having a family of 9. He was disappointed by the fact that his own family members betrayed him by not voting for him.

He also blamed the machines for recording less number of votes for him but it seems that he got carried away by his emotions too early. As per the final counting at the end of the day, he managed to score a total of 856 votes.

As per the official website of Election Commission of India (ECI), Neetu was 19th on the overall list of candidates with 856 votes.
